It was Sean's job to cut the twins' nails using a nail clipper, cause I was too scared to do it. But after nail-gate, which involved lots of Lucy's blood and tears, I've had to give in. After a failed attempt with a nail file I've had to bite the bullet (or rather the nail) and use my teeth. Despite recommendations from public health nurses, I've been resisting this since they were born because I think its gross...and doing it when there's dirt under their nails is even grosser.
So one of my jobs today is to cut the babies nails...with my teeth...all TWENTY of them. I think I'll just let the toenails grow indefinitely.

You do realise that the whole nail cutting thing is only an issue because that's how it was when you were growing up.
ReplyDeleteBreak the cursed nail cycle. Be a bit gentler than mam was, and train them to keep still.
I don't remember anything about nails when I was small...did I repress it?
ReplyDeleteDaša: Never heard of any nail cutting curse or what. Babies have their nail cut by their mothers and that is that here, no blood, no biting, they will bite their nails when they turn 8 or 9 and that is when biting becomes an issue : )
ReplyDeleteDaša: But then again, we also have a culture that pierces baby girls ears when they are like 6 months (and we are not all tinkers, you know...), so maybe we dont mind the blood : )
